Carefree Pet is a cloud-based system which allows access to Carefree PetCloud, an online portal to store all your pet’s vital information including uploading veterinary records for easy access. In the event they become lost and are found, their information is accessed through PawPinner tags with a designated identification number and three ways to retrieve the owner or emergency contact when your pet is found.
The process is simple, and consists of three easy steps. The first step is to choose a Carefree Pet tag and sign up for the monthly membership. Next, upon receiving tags and a welcome kit, log into your account and input all relevant information. In the event a pet becomes lost, the back of each Carefree Pet tag includes three contact options which allow the finder to quickly identify the owner. First, a QR code with the pet's unique profile URL will provide their information if scanned by a smartphone. Second, the pet's information can be accessed through the Carefree Pet website by entering their dedicated ID number. Lastly, the Carefree Pet toll free phone number can be called 24/7 and a representative will assist in the reuniting of pet and owner.
You can add your pet’s profile picture, emergency contacts, veterinary, medical and vaccination data and any insurance, food preferences or additional information that would be vital shall your pet become lost and then found.
As often as needed. It is important to keep your pet’s profile updated with the most current information to help with reunification.
A microchip requires the found pet to be taken to a veterinary office with a particular scanner during business hours. Microchips have been known to move underneath the pet’s skin and may not be detectable. A GPS collar is limited in the distance the pet may travel and remain within range, in addition to the collar must be recharged to remain functional. Carefree Pet's PawPinner tags aren't limited by batteries or vet visits. Once your Carefree Pet tag is scanned by any smartphone you will immediately be notified of the location of the pet and the person who found the pet will be provided your pet's Carefree Pet profile page listing your contact information and health history.

MetLife considers the following to be routine or preventative:
• Routine examinations like annual vet exam, routine tests or screens
• Vaccines
• Teeth cleaning or polishing
• Nail trimming, declawing, dewclaw removal, tail docking, and ear cropping
• Micro-chipping
• Spaying and neutering
• Anal gland expression
• Behavior training
Our plans do not provide coverage for preventive care, but you can add routine care coverage to any policy and greatly increase your coverage for many of the conditions and concerns listed above.
Hereditary conditions are inherited diseases or disorders. They plague certain breeds of dogs and cats and are passed down from your pet's parents to your pet. These illnesses are diverse, ranging from very serious to nearly benign. A congenital condition is an ongoing health concern not genetically linked, but developed while your pet was in utero. These can include things like cherry eye and hip dysplasia, though congenital conditions take countless forms. MetLife is proud to offer coverage for all congenital and hereditary conditions on our pet insurance plans as long as they aren't pre-existing at the time your policy begins. Not sure if your pet's illness or injury is hereditary or congenital? Ask your veterinarian or check with a MetLife representative.
We consider a chronic condition to be any health concern that will require long-term treatment. Chronic conditions are everything from allergies to arthritis, diabetes to glaucoma, and are covered by our pet insurance plans as long as they are not pre-existing to the policy. Not sure if your pet has a chronic condition? Ask your veterinarian for more information or consult with a MetLife representative.
Approved claims are paid within 14 days via check in the mail or direct deposit.
